(April 15, 2026) — Wesleyan University will present a musical performance celebrating America’s 250th titled, “American Musical Traditions, 1865-1915: A Cultural Tapestry” on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Wesleyan’s Crowell Concert Hall. This program is a benefit concert presented for the Middlesex County Historical Society and with gratitude to our Sponsor, Liberty Bank.

Trends in post-Civil War American musical styling and subject matter came alive once a newly reunified nation could celebrate once again. Come hear President Lincoln declare “with malice toward none,” as musicians, dancers and vocalists applaud our new-found identity in the melodies and lyrics of the closing decades of the 19th century, with a glimpse into the new century.
“Those decades were a time to turn our attention away from European inspiration and find our own, unique voice,” said Neely Bruce and Richard Friswell, Program Coordinators.
Tickets available at the Wesleyan Box Office (USDAN) or https://wesleyan.universitytickets.com/ Adults: $24; Seniors, Wesleyan University faculty/staff/alumni: $15. Wesleyan and Non-Wesleyan students, and youth under 18: $10
