HKYFS Creates Mental Health and Prevention Team

Submitted by Jennifer Favalora

(February 28, 2024) — Haddam-Killingworth Youth and Family Services (HKYFS) has announced the formation of its dedicated Mental Health and Prevention team, each member bringing extensive experience and a deep commitment to enhancing positive youth development in Haddam-Killingworth.

Leading the team is Alli Behnke, appointed as the Director of Mental Health and Prevention. With more than twenty years of service in Youth Service Bureaus across the state, Behnke brings a wealth of expertise as a social worker and community advocate, poised to make a significant impact in her new role.

Joining Alli is Kyana Anderson, serving as the Prevention Coordinator.   Kyana’s specialization in substance abuse prevention, along with her extensive experience working with youth and families in behavioral health environments, highlights her pivotal role in driving substance misuse initiatives among the youth.

Completing the trio is Denise Grodzicki, a licensed professional counselor with more than 22 years of experience in the middle school setting, who serves as the new contracted clinician. Denise’s background reflects her dedication to fostering the emotional and social development of youth, making her a valuable addition to the team.  Denise will provide after-school therapy sessions for youth starting this week.

In addition to counseling services, HKYFS will be hosting the following series of programs in March catered to parents, families, and youth:

– March 16, 2024: HK Family Hikers @ Platt Nature Center (10:30 a.m. – 12:00 Noon)

– March 19, 2024: Zoom presentation – “Burnout Be Gone: A Modern Guide to Healthy Parenting” (7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.)

– March 21, 2024: Girl Talk (6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.)

– March 26, 2024: Girls With A Purpose (8:45 a.m.)

Together with everyone who is part of HKYFS, Alli, Denise, and Kyana’s combined expertise and dedication promise to strengthen our commitment to our vision of a connected community where youth and families are resilient and feel safe, supported, and empowered.

HKYFS serves as a central hub of information and our staff can connect you with services to support the unique needs of your children and family. More information on all programs, and on how to sign up, can be found on our website at hkyfs.org.
