(February 25, 2024) — The Haddam-Killingworth High School Boys Basketball Team defeated Coginchaug in the Shoreline Conference quarterfinals on February 24, 2024 by the score of 75-64. It was an all-around team effort.
HKHS led after two quarters, though Coginchaug rebounded with a strong third quarter. At the start of the fourth, Coginchaug led 51-48. Strong defensive play by co-captains Luke Mauri and Bryce O’Linn, and junior Joe Slane helped turn the tide. HK pulled away in the fourth with a relentless offensive. It was a thrilling victory for the Cougars.
HK was led by junior Andrew Crayton, who had 24 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals and was 13 of 14 from the free throw line. Senior Ryan Erskine had a big game with 14 points, sinking three 3-pointers with ease. Senior co-captain Blake Kamoen and junior Declan Moriarty each contributed 13 points. Kamoen led in rebounds with 10 and had 2 assists. Slane continued to impress under the boards with 5 rebounds and 1 assist. Rounding out the scoring, Cody Robinson had 3 points, Byrce O’Linn had 4 points while Joe Slane and Jay Evans each contributed 2. Kudos to the Coginchaug Blue Devils on their run, a classy game, and respectful fans.
HKHS plays at Cromwell in the semi-finals on Tuesday February 27, 2024. Game time is 7:00 p.m.. Come out to support the Cougars as they look to make history. See you on the court.
