Free Screening of New Documentary on the American Chestnut Tree

Submitted by Pete Weiss

(August 23, 2023) — The Rockfall Foundation will host a free screening of the documentary film, “Clear Day Thunder: Rescuing the American Chestnut” on September 21, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Foundation’s deKoven House, 27 Washington Street in Middletown.

Once upon a time stood a magnificent tree. This tree, a symbol of life’s interconnectedness, provided sustenance and shelter to countless creatures. As the 20th century unfolded, a calamity of sorts struck. A destructive blight, unknowingly introduced from Asia, began to ravage the American Chestnut tree. This once-thriving species faced a dire fate, teetering on the brink of annihilation within just a few generations.

This new documentary tells the story of passionate citizen scientists and researchers working to restore this ecologically and economically important species during this pivotal moment. These devoted individuals are dedicating themselves to breathing new life into the American Chestnut, ensuring that it can once again shape the destiny of our world.
