Killingworth Lions Choose Winner of “Peace Poster” Contest

Submitted by Greg Wind, Killingworth Lions Club

(December 19, 2025) — For more than three decades, Lions Clubs around the world have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and among youth groups, which is open to young artists ages 11-13. Throughout the years, the Killingworth Lions have invited young students to explore and visually express on canvas what this year’s theme (“Together As One”) means to them.

“Invited young artists were to consider what unity, collaboration, and global understanding truly mean. Their responses were nothing short of remarkable. Each submission reflected not only artistic skill, but a depth of reflection and symbolism that speaks to the maturity and empathy of our students. I am deeply inspired by these young people who so thoughtfully envision a more peaceful and connected world. Their capacity to imagine solutions, to express hope, and to lead with compassion reminds us that they are not only emerging artists – they are emerging leaders.” A note from Haddam-Killingworth Middle School Principal Heather Persson.

There were five students who entered their posters. They include:

Brynn Chometa     1st place Winner (photo left, with HKMS Assistant Principal Steve Fitzgerald)

Imogen Peterson   2nd Place Winner

Aurora Mylen         3rd Place Winner

“There were eight judges who had to make some difficult decisions because all entries were just so amazing and meaningful,” said Lions President David Beaudette. Proud parents, Killingworth First Selectman Eric Couture, and several Lions District and Club representatives made the event a genuine celebration of community, creativity and civic engagement.

Brynn’s painting was sent to the District’s Peace Poster Coordinator for further judging which she came in third place overall at the District level which is quite an accomplishment. Special thanks to Art Teacher Isabelle Reina, Assistant Principal Fitzgerald, and for the continued support from Principal Persson and the members of the Killingworth Lions Club.
