Cross Country Teams Both Finish in Top 13 at James Earley Invitational

The Saint Michael’s College cross country teams both finished in the top 13 out of 36 schools at the James Earley Invitational on Saturday. The women’s team finished ninth with 275 points in the 5K while the men finished 13th with 325 points in the 8K. The women were able to best two Northeast-10 Conference opponents in Southern Connecticut State University and the University of New Haven, which finished 12th and 13th, respectively. Eleven of 14 Purple Knight scorers set personal records.

Junior Abby French (Nashua, N.H./Academy of Notre Dame) sped in at 18:53.91 while finishing in ninth place to tally her 10th career top-10 finish. French has finished no worse than 21st in all three of her career Earley Invitational appearances. Senior Emily Calder (Hopkinton, N.H./Hopkinton) finished 64th, clocking in at 20:31.46 for her fastest time since 2015. Junior Emma Koukos (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) was 65th, right on the heels of Calder at 20:31:55, while first-year Hannah Muse (Yarmouth, Mass./Nauset Regional) finished at 20:52.34, good for 77th. Sophomore Molly Nemes (Plymouth, Mass./Sturgis Charter Public School) crossed the finish line at 20:57.43, grabbing 79th place, while senior Kara Hettinger (Lindenhurst, Ill./Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) came in three spots behind her with a time of 21:00.58. First-year Alexus Day (Belmont, N.H./Belmont) rounded out the scoring for the women, coming in at 21:38.99 for a 109th-place finish.

On the men’s side, junior Kevin Jeter (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) posted a 22nd-place finish in a field of 210 runners, pacing the Purple Knights at 26:54.74. Jeter has now finished in the top 32 in all three of his career Earley Invitational showings. First-year James Downs (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) finished in 73rd, recording a time of 28:29.79, while classmate Nate Hartley (Hadley, N.Y./Hadley-Luzerne) came in 84th at 28:52.21. Senior Nathan Terry (Reading, Mass./Tilton School) kicked in two places behind Hartley at a time of 28:57.70 and first-year Jake Donnelly (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) clocked in at 29:07.57 to finish 91st. First-year John Cunningham (Springfield, N.H./Kearsarge Regional) crossed the finish line at 29:15.90 to place 95th, while senior David Baird (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) added a time of 29:26.08, landing in 101st.
