HKHS Coach Mark Brookes to be Honored at Gold Key Awards

(August 24, 2023) — The Connecticut Sports Media Alliance (CSMA) will host the 81st annual Gold Key Awards at the Aqua Turf in Southington on Sunday October 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Twenty individuals will be honored; among them is longtime Haddam-Killingworth High School Baseball Coach Mark Brookes.

Brookes has coached the Cougars for 47 years and has won 743 games—the second highest win total in the history of high school baseball in Connecticut. This past spring, the Cougars won the Class S state championship under  Brookes’s guidance. He has been chosen CIAC Coach of the Year for his many achievements. 

Proceeds from the event support the $3,000 Bo Kolinsky Award given annually to a worthy high school athlete. Kolinsky was a popular sportswriter for the Hartford Courant who died too soon at the age of 49.
