Letter to the Editor: Haddam BOS 5/10/21 Report Statistics Correction

Dear Editors,
Regarding the Covid-19 section of the BOS Meeting notes for 5/10 ( in the 5/27 edition of HK News), the statement “…new cases are trending up  for state of CT as a whole…” seems inaccurate, and in fact, contrary to number reported by the State.
I have been tracking new cases and deaths per week. As can be seen by the numbers and chart below, representing reported numbers since December of this year, it is hard to understand how they can be interpreted as trending up. I’d be interested in the source data used to generate that statement.
Accurate and consistent information is important to understand which way we are going, and to understand the effectiveness of the vaccine and other mitigation measures.
Sincerely,
Frank Yaskin
Higganum, CT
Editor’s Note: We included correct statistics on the report because of this letter bringing the error to our attention. It was a mistake of the reporter, not of the BOS.
