Killingworth Copes: December 10, 2020

By Cathy Iino, First Selectman, Killingworth.
Killingworth’s COVID case rate for November 22 – December 5, 2020 was 23.5 per 100,000 population—up slightly from the previous period. We have almost reached a cumulative total of 100 cases in Killingworth. Public gatherings have been cancelled.
But here are a few events to brighten this dark time of year:
Happy Hanukkah! For the first time, a menorah is in place at Parmelee Farm, and the first of eight candles was lit tonight, the first of Hanukkah’s eight nights.
This Saturday, December 12, watch the Christmas tree lighting at Parmelee Farm broadcast live on Channel 18 (HKTV) and online. It won’t be as much fun as seeing everyone up close and personal, but there will be a visit from you-know-who.
On Wednesday, December 23, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., students at Haddam-Killingworth High School will broadcast the 32nd annual HK Holiday Telethon. This year, the telethon is raising money for the Nathaniel B. Field Memorial Foundation, a suicide prevention program founded by the parents of an HKHS junior who took his life in April 2015. Watch our terrific young people perform for this important cause on Channel 18 or online at holidayshow.rsd17.org.
COVID Testing. You can find a list of free COVID test sites at 211ct.org.
Other providers offer COVID tests, but not all of them are free. Be sure you know what you will be charged if you go to get tested.
With the approval of the Pfizer vaccine today, relief from this dreadful pandemic is on the horizon, but it won’t be here for a number of months. Please stick with masks and social distancing until then.
Stay safe and carry on—
