HVFC Responds to Car Rollover on Route 9

(Aug. 4, 2023)—Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to a motor vehicle accident at 5:45 a.m. today, July 30. The call was dispatched as a rollover into the woods on Route 9 North between exits 15 and 19.

Upon arrival, Connecticut State Police reported that the vehicle’s operator was not at the scene of the accident nor inside the vehicle.

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to search the surrounding woods. In addition, CSP Trooper Ryan Mara of CT State Police Troop D Danielson brought K9 Kash to the scene to assist in tracking the vehicle’s operator. K9 Kash is trained in tracking wanted/missing persons, evidence recovery, area searches, criminal apprehension, building searches, and handler protection.

During the investigation with the K9 unit, the vehicle’s owner reappeared at the scene. The driver was evaluated on scene by HVFC EMS personnel and transported to Middlesex Hospital via Haddam Volunteer Ambulance Service, Inc.

All traffic was diverted to the left lane of Route 9 North during the incident.

The incident is under investigation with the CSP.
