At 4:20 p.m. Nov. 29, 2019, Haddam Volunteer Fire Company, Middletown South Fire District, and Durham Volunteer Fire Company responded to a structure fire at a residence on Candlewood Hill Road. Other mutual aid companies were requested but canceled.
Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke billowing from a detached, three-car garage. Upon further investigation, firefighters noted that the smoke was coming from a lean-two structure located behind the garage. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire using a line from Haddam’s Engine 6-13.
Crews also removed a section of wall, where the fire had extended into the building’s upstairs interior.
A section of Candlewood Hill was blocked during the incident. The fire is under investigation with the Haddam Fire Marshall Office.
