Boys Track/Girls Track 2024: HKHS Teams Down Valley and Morgan

Ryan Ruggiero Wins 300 hurdles

(May 9, 2024) — On May 7, 2024, the Haddam Killingworth Boys and Girls track teams traveled to Clinton to compete in a tri-meet against Morgan and Valley Regional.

The Boys team defeated Valley by a score of 109-27, and Morgan by a score of 116-25, to improve their dual meet season record to 8-0. 

Leading the way for the Cougars were the following event winners: Alex Frederickson 800 (2:16), Cash Smigel 1600 (4:49), Paul Birkmeyer 3200 (11:42), Eli Hamann-Shay 200 (22.5), Ryan Ruggiero 110 hurdles (16.8) 300 hurdles (43.8) and pole vault (11’0″), Luke Staskelunas 400 (53.8), Trevor Dixon shot put (44’2″), Luke Staskelunas triple jump (38’7″), Mitchell Kelsey discus (125’3″), Joe Slane high jump (5’6″), Ryan Rafferty ling jump (18’4″).  The Boys also swept all 3 relays, winning the 4×800, 4×100 and 4×400.

The H-K Girls team went 2-0 on the day as they defeated Valley by a score of 77-72, and beat Morgan by a score of 86-59, to improve to 7-1 in dual meets this season.  Leading the way for the Cougars were the following event winners:  Margaret Robinson javelin (82′ 6″), Adrianna Garoppolo pole vault (8’0″) and Chloe Felder triple jump (28’11”). The girls 4×800 relay team was also victorious on the afternoon to contribute team points.

 

The track teams will next be in action this weekend as several team members will compete in the Loucks Games on Thursday and Saturday in White Plains, New York, while other team members will be competing in the Running Rams Invitational at Old Saybrook on May 10, 2024.  The team will then wrap up their dual meet season at home on May 14, 2024 as they host a tri-meet against Cromwell and Old Saybrook.
