HHS: A tour of Thankful’s neighborhood on Oct. 2

Submitted by Elizabeth Malloy

On Saturday, October 2, 2021 the Haddam Historical Society invites you to join a tour of Thankful Arnold’s Neighborhood at 3:00 p.m. to celebrate Haddam River Days. The tour will visit a half dozen historic sites in museum’s vicinity and learn about the area’s heyday as the county seat and village center. Fascinating residents included John Cook, a collaborator of John Brown at Harper’s Ferry and Mary Graham, a director of the Hartford Social Settlement, who opened a summer retreat for urban working girls called “Happy Cottage” at the corner of Walkley Hill Road and Saybrook Road.

Open to all Haddam residents and free admission. Gather at the Thankful Arnold House Museum at 3:00 pm. Parking available at museum.
