The Haddam-Killingworth High School girls varsity soccer team is wrapping up their preseason under first year head coach Mike Shea. The girls took part in the First Annual 2019 Michele Bassett Memorial Jamboree at Saint Bernard School in Uncasville. The jamboree was held in honor of Michele Bassett, who passed away earlier this year after a six year battle with colon cancer. Her dedication to Saint Bernard School was very special. Saint Bernards wanted to start this event in her honor. Proceeds from the jamboree went to the Cactus Jack Foundation, which provides charitable aid to residents in Southeastern Connecticut. The Cougars were honored to accept an invite to the Jamboree. The team wanted to pay tribute to Michele Bassett. They did so by wearing dark blue ribbons in their hair to support colon cancer awareness. Additionally, each team member contributed in a collection that was provided to the Cactus Jack Foundation in honor of Michele Bassett.

Coach Shea was very proud of their girls in their positive contribution to the Jamboree. Additionally, the girls had a very good outing. In the four games they played against Killingly, Wheeler, Saint Bernard, and Montville, HKHS won all four of their games. The Cougars scored 9 goals and only allowed one in the four games combined.
