CSP: Essex Arrest Made After a Disturbance

(October 29, 2023) — On Saturday, 10/28/2023, at approximately 0058 hours, personnel from Troop F received a 911 call from Matthew Craig, DOB 04/02/2005, of 115 Main Street in Ivoryton, reporting that he had just stabbed a family member several times at a residence in Essex. Upon Troopers and EMS arrival, the victim was laying on the floor having sustained multiple apparent stab wounds to his chest and back area. At 0116 hours, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.

Interviews were conducted by CDMC detectives with the suspect and two witnesses, who were present at the scene, and all claimed that the victim was involved a physical domestic dispute with a female, prior to the suspect intervening and stabbing the victim.

Based on interviews and on scene physical evidence, Matthew Craig was arrested for Manslaughter in the First Degree and Risk of Injury to a Minor (a juvenile was also inside the house at the time of the incident). He was held on a $250,000 bond, transported to Hartford Correctional Center and will be arraigned at GA #9, Middletown on 10/30/2023.
