(January 14, 2025) — St. Peter’s Church will host a community blood drive through the American Red Cross on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Church Hall, 30 St. Peter’s Lane in Higganum. To make a donation appointment, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or register online at redcrossblood.org.
“The parishioners of St. Peter’s are committed to serving our community, and to helping people who are injured or ill through these blood donations,” said the church’s pastor, Rev. Joseph De Costa. “This blood drive will be our 50th. Donors have given more than 1,800 units of blood so far, and Peg Langer is usually at the front of the line at each drive. This is our opportunity to recognize her for the loving and giving spirit she spreads throughout Higganum and beyond.”
Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross.
“We urge community members to donate, which helps ensure patients in our local hospitals have a ready supply of blood before a need occurs,” said Father De Costa. “There is no better feeling than knowing your blood donation may give someone a second chance at life.”
According to the Red Cross, donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative.
