(August 20, 2024) — Aquarion Water Company has been recognized by the Clean Transportation Coalition of Western Connecticut for its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and electrify its vehicle fleet. The company received the “Green Fleet Award” for a utility at the Coalition’s awards ceremony in Norwalk.

Aquarion has worked for several years to make its Connecticut fleet of 183 vehicles more fuel-efficient and reduce carbon emissions. The company added its first full EV to the fleet in 2019 and has continued to expand its lineup of EVs, hybrids, and charging stations.

“Transitioning more vehicles to hybrid and electric models is an important part of our strategy for reducing our carbon footprint over the next decade,” said Carolyn Giampe, Aquarion’s Director of Sustainability and Environmental Management. “With further improvements to EV range, battery charging duration, and charger accessibility, we will continue to make progress toward electrifying our fleet and helping the state achieve its carbon reduction goals.”

In addition to adding EVs and hybrids to its fleet, Aquarion also has converted all of its offices to LED lighting and added rooftop solar panels at five of its facilities, including its Headquarters, Customer Service Center, Operations Center, Easton Lake Water Treatment Plant, and Aspetuck Environmental Center (Watershed Management office).

Aquarion Water Company is the public water supply company for more than 750,000 people in 72 cities and towns in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. It is the largest investor-owned water utility in New England and among the seven largest in the U.S. Based in Bridgeport, Aquarion has been in the public water supply business since 1857. Across its operations, Aquarion strives to act as a responsible steward of the environment and to assist the communities it serves in promoting sustainable practices. Aquarion Water Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eversource.
