(August 3, 2026) — Starting kindergarten is one of a child’s biggest milestones, with some of the best memories. The transition to kindergarten is filled with new experiences, growing independence, and big emotions for both children and their families. To help make that journey a positive experience, Haddam-Killingworth Youth and Family Services, in partnership with HK Youth Unplugged, is inviting families to our “Start Strong Together” event.
This event was created for incoming kindergarten students and their families to help children build excitement and confidence as they prepare for their first day of school. It emphasizes the social and emotional skills that help children thrive in the classroom and beyond.

Children will participate in interactive and hands on activities to practice making new friends, turn taking, problem solving, expressing emotions in healthy ways, following directions, and building independence. They will strengthen their confidence while having fun with games and playground equipment.
While children are learning through play, parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to ask questions about the kindergarten transition, gain a better understanding of the social and emotional changes children experience as they begin school, and discover simple strategies for building confidence and independence at home. HKYFS and HK Youth Unplugged will provide practical tips and resources to help make the transition to school a positive experience.
By creating opportunities for children to build friendships and for families to connect with one another, this event helps strengthen the sense of community that supports children throughout their educational journey. HKYFS and HK Youth Unplugged are excited to partner with families to form a positive connection and have some fun!
Families with children entering kindergarten this fall are encouraged to attend this free event, with two available dates on August 18, 2026 and August 20, 2026fromt 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional event information and registration can be found HERE.
