Programs and Events at Killingworth Library: April 2026

Submitted by Tammy Eustis

(March 25, 2026) — The following special programs and events will take place at Killingworth Library during the month of April, 2026. Our regular programs – Tales for Tots, Love2Sign, Minecraft, Music with Margie, and Surprise Saturday – continue as well. Pre-registration is required for all of these programs. Please visit the Calendar on killingworthlibrary.org or call 860-663-2000 to reserve your spot.

Community Plant-a-Tree Project – Planting trees results in cleaner and cooler air, a healthier environment, and an opportunity to lower ground-level ozone. Killingworth Library is spearheading a project to plant as many trees as possible. This spring, the Arbor Day Foundation is supplying the library with fifty one-year-old tree seedlings, which will all be free for the taking! If you are interested in planting a tree (or more than one), please contact the library at 860-663-2000 or mail@killingworthlibrary.org. We will call you the day the trees arrive. (Please plan to pick them up as soon as possible.) You also will receive printed instructions for planting and care, courtesy of the Arbor Day Foundation. This program is for all ages, and is a wonderful family activity. If you would like to donate toward this project, please contact the library. We can purchase fifty additional trees – to meet community interest – for every $79.00 we raise. We are planning to share this initiative with other libraries around the state, to get Connecticut planting!

Adult Movie Night – Wednesday, April 1, 2026 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Join us for a free movie viewing! We meet in the adult reading area after the library closes at 6:00 p.m. Feel free to bring your own snacks and (covered, non-alcoholic) drinks. Please contact the library or visit the Calendar on our website for this month’s title, and be sure to register to reserve your seat.

Library Renewal: Tai Chi with Stephen Watson – Tuesday, April 7, 2026 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Are you a Tai Chi Wannabe? Join us for our new, monthly Tai Chi class at Killingworth Library! This class is designed to promote balance, structural stability, and ease of mind. You can join us whether you’ve had no prior experience or perhaps practiced Tai Chi elsewhere. Each of our practices can be done seated or with the use of an assistive device! We’d like to welcome everyone to the wise world of soft health methods. In our classes, we’ll explore modern methods of balance restoration as we journey through the wonderful wisdom of Asia’s ancient traditions. Each class will offer gentle stretches, self-massage self-care routines, guided energy circulation practices, and a chance to play at the gentle movements famous for their power and poise. Join us in the spirit of play and take the tools home to play every day! This is a free program, but please register ahead of time, as our space is limited.

Pajama Storytime – Tuesday, April 7, 2026 6:00 p.m. to  6:30 p.m. Come dressed in your PJs and bring your favorite stuffed animal and blanket. Mrs. Fig will share stories from our favorite authors. This month, she’s reading Laura Numeroff. Readers will be engaged with sound effects, movements, and puppets. Family members of all ages are welcome! Please register in advance, so we know how many friends to expect.

Tweens Writing – Friday, April 10, 2026 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. This program is an opportunity for children ages 9 to 12 to meet and share their writing with peers. The group is based on a workshop model, so each person has an opportunity to share their work and receive feedback. No one is required to share. We are currently writing short, comic-style stories. If you are new to the group, please feel free to bring a story with you. Space is limited for this popular program, so please register in advance, even if you have attended the program before.

Writers Writing – Friday, April 10, 2026 and Friday, April 24, 2026 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. This is an ongoing writing group for adults and seniors. We explore different genres, including short stories, personal essays, novels, memoirs, and poetry. The class is designed as a workshop, where attendees can share their work and receive feedback. Sharing is optional and we welcome shyness. This program is very popular, so please register in advance, even if you have attended in the past.

LEGO STEM Club – Tuesday, April 14, 2026 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Future engineers! Learn to use the STEM steps to success as you solve the problem, plan and create a design and test your project. Interactive Storytime for Week of the Young Child – Wednesday, April 15, 2026 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Mrs. Fig will engage your little ones with two “sweet” stories: “When Grandma Gives You a Lemon Tree,” by Jamie L.B. Deenihan, and “It Began with Lemonade,” by Gideon Sterer. Then, we’ll follow a recipe to make our own lemonade and try some science experiments with lemons! Suitable for children birth through five years old. Space is limited, so please register in advance. This program is part of the HK Unplugged for Promoting Wellness Initiative, held in conjunction with the Week of the Young Child.

Math Mania – Thursday, April 16, 2026 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. There are so many fun games you can play while reinforcing your math skills at the same time. Space is limited, so please register in advance.

Drive-In Movie – Thursday, April 16, 2026 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Decorate a cardboard box with paper plate wheels and some fancy designs, then bring your “car” to the children’s room for a “drive-in” movie! Sit in your car, enjoy a bag of Smartfood popcorn, and enjoy a storybook film. Please contact the library or visit the Calendar on our website for this month’s title, and please register to reserve your “parking space” (floor seating is available, too).

The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and William Dawes – Saturday, April 18, 2026 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Designed for children ages two through eight, this program celebrates the historic ride of Paul Revere and William Dawes. This event will be held at the Henry Carter Hull Library in Clinton. Co-sponsored by the Killingworth and Henry Carter Hull Libraries.

Mosaic Tile Class for Adults with Special Needs – Saturday, April 25, 2026 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Teens and adults with special needs are invited to attend this creative event! We will design and play with mosaic tiles to create boards that inspire you. Bring your creativity! This program is free, and all supplies will be provided. For ages 16-99. The Killingworth Library is wheelchair accessible, but you must have your own transportation. Bring along a friend, parent, or support staff to join the fun! Space is limited, so please register in advance.

Passport to Connecticut Libraries

Starting on April 1, 2026, stop by Killingworth Library to pick up a Passport and a list of participating libraries around the state. Then, visit as many of those libraries as you like until April 30, 2026 to get your passport stamped, and maybe collect some cool library swag. Almost 200 public libraries in Connecticut are taking part in this program, along with school, college, museum and church libraries. Turn your passport in no later than May 11, 2026, and if you have visited at least five libraries, your name will be entered into a prize drawing! You do not need a library card to participate in the Passport program. This is a great way to explore the amazing variety of Connecticut libraries and discover the many awesome things they’re doing. This program is sponsored by the Connecticut Library Association.

Holiday Closing
The library will be closed on April 3, 2026 for Good Friday.
