Art for All: Summer Paper Wreaths
– Monday, June 9, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. Join us in making colorful paper wreaths, the perfect summer decoration for patio, poolside or porch! All materials will be provided, and Miss Sparkie and Miss Sherry will be on hand to assist. You are welcome to bring in your own art projects as well.

Adult Movie Night: Jaws – Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 6:00pm. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of this classic summer blockbuster, directed by Steven Spielberg. When a young woman is killed by a shark while swimming near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and grizzled ship captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature. We will be meeting in the adult reading area after the library closes at 6:00 p.m. The movie’s running time is two hours. Feel free to bring your own snacks and (covered, non-alcoholic) drinks.

Crochet Club – Begins Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Want to learn a new crafting skill? Come explore the fun and basics of crochet with an expert young crocheter. Level up your skills as we start something new each session, and create items to keep, or to give as gifts. All materials will be provided. Feel free to bring your own 5.5mm crochet hook, if you have one (perfect for practicing at home). This class will be held on June 18th and 25th, and July 2nd, 9th, 23rd, and 30th. Please register for each session that you can attend. Appropriate for ages 8 through 12.

Explore Creativity with Chris Van Allsburg – Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Attention future children’s book authors and illustrators in grades 2 through 5! Are you familiar with Chris Van Allsburg and his creative books? Join this interactive story time, featuring one of Van Allsburg’s titles. We’ll learn about his writing and illustrating process, and we’ll share what we notice about his work. Then there will be time to create your own illustrated story.

Connecticut Goes to War 80th Anniversary Tribute – Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. History educator Phil Devlin returns with a fascinating talk on World War II. Few people realize that of the more than nine thousand Americans buried in the famous American cemetery at Normandy, three are women, and two of those women were from Connecticut. Few also realize that the highest ranking American general killed in the war was heroic General Maurice Rose of Middletown, who served under General George Patton. The interesting stories of the six Fuller brothers from Suffield who served in the war is also part of the presentation, as is the story of Ulmont Whitehead of Hartford, killed aboard the USS Arizona during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Additionally, there are many interesting stories related to the creation of Bradley Field and the people who trained there…and more. The talk will be 45 minutes, with time for questions at the end. A follow-up to this program is planned for September 2, 2025. (This event has been re-scheduled from its original May 6, 2025 date)

Tinker and Take It Apart – Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 12:00 Noon. Are you the next Rosie Revere, Engineer or just fascinated with taking apart everyday items? Come and disassemble donated items and foster a sense of curiosity and problem solving with other tinkerers. Please bring safety goggles from home. Appropriate for ages 5-11.

Killingworth Library will be closed on June 19, 2025 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
