(May 19, 2025) — Sacred Heart on the Lake Retreat Center in Higganum will present a study of the film “A Man For All Seasons” on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Released in 1966, “A Man for All Seasons” was the winner of six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Paul Scofield), Best Director (Fred Zinnemann) and Best Screenplay (Robert Bolt).
The film depicts the conflict between St. Thomas More and King Henry VIII. When the King could not get a papal annulment for his legitimate marriage, his next move was to separate from the Catholic Church and declare himself head of the Church of England. This brought him into conflict with his Chancellor, Thomas More, a staunch Catholic. The film dramatizes the conflict and the high stakes that More faces to remain true to his conscience.
Jim Pepitone will be the discussion leader for this study session. A free-will donation will be welcomed. To register, email Sr. Patricia Cigrand at cigrandpatricia@gmail.com or call 203-606-4830.
