(April 2, 2025) — Haddam Killingworth News has announced that the work of cartoonist Robert Summers will appear in the weekly print edition of the paper, which is delivered on Thursdays.
Summers is a retired intermediate school teacher who lives in Hiram, Ohio. He has drawn cartoons ever since, as he puts it, “Sister Clarita showed me how to correctly hold a Laddie pencil.”
His cartoon strip, called “Shiver Me Timbers,” is about the lighter side of the life and times of those who enjoy the water, boats, and events along the shore. It first appeared in the “Put-In-Bay Gazette” in 1998. (Strip above is called “Back in the Day”)
His other published comic strips are “Race Car Heart” (short track stock car racing humor) “Riding Shotgun” (the trials and tribulations of the outdoorsman), and “Headwater Tales” (downhome adventures in rural Portage County Ohio). Robert Summers’s drawings have appeared in numerous newspapers, journals, and magazines in the United States, Canada, and Europe. He hopes you enjoy “Shiver Me Timbers.” HK News welcomes him the pages of our newspaper.
