During the COVID-19 shutdowns and limitations placed on restaurants, gyms, and more, help support these local small businesses. For some small businesses, you can purchase a gift certificate for later use. For restaurants, many are now offering takeout/curbside service so that they can remain open during the forced closures. Other businesses have changed the way they operate to keep you safe. Please continue to support these local businesses so that they will still be open at the end of the closures.
These rules went into effect on April 3, 2020. Please follow the signs in stores.
– We were mostly a take-out restaurant already but we now have to cancel in-house events for the time being (game night will be back soon, promise!).
– We’re working on figuring out which window is the easiest to use for a walk-up pick-up zone. Stay tuned!
– We can do curbside pickup, just call the bakery at 860-452-4401 to let me know when you are coming by.
– We can also do some local delivery, contact us to see if we can deliver to you.
Cohen’s Bagel Company — Customer seating area is closed. Coffee and bagels will no longer be self-serve. Instead, orders will be prepared by a Cohen’s team member. Customers can phone in their order by calling (203) 318-5090 and we will take your credit card over the phone. For those that prefer, we will offer curbside pick-up. Simply let us know that is your request upon calling in your order and place a second call to let us know when you have arrived. Located at 1347 Boston Post Road, Madison.
The Cooking Company — The Cooking Company is fortunate in that we are able to continue providing our customers with service in this trying time. Please feel free to call and place your order ahead of time and we can have it ready so you don’t have to wait. We’ll also be happy to bring it to you outside if you prefer. Also, as usual, our website will be updated every day with our specials to make it easier to make a selection before coming in or to call and have us hold something. Copper Skillet — The Copper Skillet will remain open and will be serving strictly take out orders. Our hours will be Monday through Saturday 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., honoring takeouts on all Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Sunday 7:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. for Breakfast and Lunch takeout orders. Now available at The Copper Skillet for those families that are more comfortable keeping their children or older Parents at Home we will be selling Breakfast Family Trays as of 3/22. These trays will be available for family sizes of 3 to 8 people at $10 per person. The trays will consist of Pancakes, French Toast, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, and Sausage. You can call ahead and have it ready to be picked up at anytime. Just ask the person on the phone for The Family Breakfast and specify for how many people you would like (3-8)and we will have it ready for you nice and hot to be picked up either by coming inside or at your request curbside pick up, which we will bring it out to your car for you, and morning we’re open.To further assist our customers we will be offering curbside pick up for those customers who feel safer not leaving their automobiles. Our staff has been made aware to pay more attention in the sanitization of all chairs, tables, menus, and condiments. DaVinci’s Pizzeria (Higganum) — We will be closed the evening of Monday March 16, 2020 so that our restaurant can be professionally cleaned and sanitized. When we reopen March 17, 2020 we will be excited to announce curbside delivery in addition to our regular take out service ! Essex Steam Train & Riverboat — Many of Essex Steam Train and Riverboat’s springtime activities are being put on hold because we normally attract crowds larger than the maximum now recommended. However, our Rail Bike program (weekends in April, May) operating out of Haddam Meadows, and our Hand on the Throttle program (this year operating between Deep River and Haddam) will go on. These are much smaller, individual events, but we will recommend that attendees patronize any local restaurant that is open for take-out.

Halfinger’s Dancing Daffodils — DANCING DAFFODILS is a pick your own daffodil farm Located in Higganum. We are quickly approaching the 2020 picking season, and now are offering “picking appointments”. Making an appointment will enable you to come to the daffodil farm to pick, to take in fresh air, and enjoy the beautiful landscape we have here in the valley without having to worry about distancing. Halfinger Farms — Halfinger Farms Greenhouses: Our 25th year in business is starting much differently than we envisioned. We are determined to sell the plants we are growing for 2020. Killingworth True Value — Effective Friday, April 3rd, Killingworth True Value will be open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily until further notice.
