On Thursday, May 23, 2019, the Haddam Killingworth High School softball team was defeated by North Branford in the Shoreline Conference Championship Quarterfinal Game with a final score of North Branford 7, HK 6 after 8 innings of a back and forth ballgame.
HK scored 2 runs in the first inning on a Faith Mauri RBI triple follow by a Shannon Nelson RBI single. HK built a 6-3 lead only to have North Branford score two runs in the sixth and one in the 7th to send the game to extra innings. In the bottom of the 7th North Branford scored the winning run on a bases loaded single.
HK’s Freshman Audrey Snyder had 5 hits for the Cougars who started three other freshmen in the game. HK is now 13-8 and plays in the State Tournament next Tuesday, May 28, with the site and team to be determined.
