RSD 17 to Host “Master Plan” Community Conversation September 13th

Submitted by Kerry Markey

(September 2, 2023) — Regional School District 17 (RSD17) invites Haddam and Killingworth residents to attend the third in a series of Community Conversations about RSD 17’s Master Planning process. The conversation will take place at Haddam Killingworth High School on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. Prior to the event on September 13th, there will be an Open House at the high school at 4:30 p.m.

RSD 17 is focused on achieving its vision and fulfilling the components of the Vision of the Graduate. To that end, the school district is creating a Master Plan to guide RSD 17 over the next 20+ years. The Master Plan is a long-range plan to repair, rebuild or replace the school buildings. The information residents provide during these conversations will be used to identify a plan that meets the educational needs of our students while also addressing the expectations of the community.

During this third community conversation, attendees will be presented with a further refined version of the overall plan. The current plan options were developed with the community input received to date, while also considering enrollment projections and the current conditions of our buildings. At the community conversation, attendees will have an opportunity to provide feedback. Prior to the presentation, questions may be sent to masterplan@rsd17.org.

RSD 17 has already held two community conversations, hosted school tours, conducted surveys, enrollment forecasts, a facilities analysis, and held multiple planning meetings. These materials and additional master planning information can be found on the Master Plan website.
