Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore Seeks Volunteer ESL Tutors

Submitted by Joanne Argersinger

(July 31, 2023) — Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore is accepting applications for its Fall 2023 English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor Training Workshop. No experience is needed for this enriching experience, only a desire to have fun, learn another culture and help someone in our community.

Through our fourteen-hour program, conducted over eight sessions, individuals learn how to teach English to adult residents from around the world who want to learn or improve their English language skills. Potential tutors choose either the morning sessions from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., or the evening sessions from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The morning sessions are held in person at our office in the Westbrook Library; the evening sessions are a hybrid of in-person and virtual via Zoom.

The next training session begins September 28, 2023, and will run
through November 2, 2023. We also have an online self-facilitated training option
available for those unable to attend these workshops, but who would still like to be trained as an LVVS tutor. We ask for a $35 donation to cover the cost of the training materials that are provided.

If you are interested in becoming a tutor, you can obtain an
application on our website www.lvvs.org. If you would like more information,
please contact the Literacy Volunteers office at (860) 399-0280 or by e-mail at
jargersinger@lvvs.org.
