(December 13, 2023) — The Killingworth Conservation Commission, in conjunction with the Killingworth Public Library, is delighted to announce the winners of this year’s “Kids Kontest.”
The topic for this contest was Vernal Pools – what they are, how they are protected by our state and how they contribute to the natural environment.
There were three winners in two age groups: Kelly N. age 7 (photo above, left); Carter A., age 6; and Josh N., age 10 (photo above, right, with Dr. Stephanie Warren, KCC Chair).
Each of them submitted their own-colored drawings of an amphibian that lives in or around vernal pools and then wrote brief descriptions of vernal pools and how the environment benefits from the pools.
These youngsters presented good information and really earned their awards! Several of the parents mentioned that their families had very little awareness of vernal pools before the contest, and that everyone learned something new from this contest topic.
Congratulations Kelly, Carter and Josh!
