Informational Open House on PFAS in Killingworth

(July 15, 2021) The Town of Killingworth will host an informational open house on Tuesday, July 20, 7-9 pm, to answer your questions about per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

A number of public and private wells in the vicinity of the Killingworth Town Hall have tested above the Connecticut Department of Public Health action level for PFAS) of 70 parts per trillion. Water that contains PFAS above the CT DPH action level should not be consumed. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and DPH have been testing wells in this area and have provided bottled potable water to private homes with wells testing above the action level. DEEP has also begun installing water treatment systems in these residences; all will have treatment systems in place within the next few weeks.

Further testing to determine the scope of the problem is under way. Next, DEEP will have a study conducted to determine the source and means of spread of the contamination. That study will take several months.

Drop in at the open house any time between 7 and 9 pm for the opportunity to speak directly with representatives from the Town, Connecticut DPH, Connecticut DEEP, and the Connecticut Water Company. Get information on PFAS and have your questions answered.
