HVFC Tells a Story of Safety at Brainerd Library

(July 17, 2024) — On July 9, 2024 members of the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company brought fire safety and a little fun to some of Haddam’s youngest residents.

During “Children’s Storytime” at Brainerd Memorial Library, HVFC Captain Joshua Meyer read The Little Firetruck” by Margery Cuyler, Flash the Little Fire Engine” by Pam Calvert, and Fire Truck” by Peter Sis.

In between readings Captain Meyer and Firefighters Gary Bohaboy and Jamie Kuchyt taught the children about 9-1-1 and fire safety.

Firefighter Bohaboy demonstrated how he dons his protective gear so children can see that firefighters aren’t anything to be afraid of.

At the end, each child received a paper fire truck to assemble, and they toured Engine 6-13.

“These kinds of activities give us a chance to build strong bonds with area youth and give them a memory they won’t soon forget,” said Captain Meyer. “We really appreciate the awesome staff at the library for reaching out and we hope to do more with them in the future.”
