(March 15, 2024) — Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to two motor vehicle accidents, a brush fire, and three utility wires down this past week.
On March 11, 2024 crews responded to three calls for utility wires down and/or electrical fires. At 12:40 p.m., HVFC was dispatched to Morris Hubbard Road for an electrical fire on a utility pole; at 2:03 p.m., HVFC responded to a call for wires down on Wiese Albert Road, and five minutes later, at 2:08 p.m., crews were dispatched to a residence on Saybrook Road where downed power lines caused a fire approximately six feet away from the house. The house was unoccupied at the time. Once Eversource secured the power, crews extinguished the fire.
At 2:10 p.m. on March 12, 2024 HVFC was dispatched to a brush fire on Plains Road under the power lines. Crews accessed and extinguished the approximately two-acre fire with multiple apparatus, including Brush 12-13 and the UTV. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
At 4:45 p.m. on March 13, 2024 Haddam Fire and Chester Hose Company were dispatched to Route 9 North between exits 10 and 13 for a motor vehicle accident. A driver flipped their vehicle, landing upside down in the right shoulder. The driver self-extricated and refused additional medical treatment.
Later, at 7:40 p.m., crews responded to Morris Hubbard Road for another motor vehicle accident. A driver crashed their vehicle into a utility pole, snapping the pole at its base. The driver was transported to Middlesex Hospital.
