HVFC Responds to Four Motor Vehicle Accidents Within 12 Days

(February 24, 2023)–Haddam Volunteer Fire Company recently responded to four motor vehicle accidents.

At 4 p.m. on Feb. 23, HVFC was dispatched to Killingworth Road near the Little City Road intersection for a motor vehicle accident involving a school bus. The school bus was hit from behind. None of the children on the bus reported any injuries. Firefighters and EMS personnel from Killingworth Ambulance Association evaluated the drivers who refused medical treatment or transport. Firefighters briefly shut down both lanes of traffic to allow the children to exit the damaged bus and board a new bus. Crews also applied absorbent material to fluid leak and helped direct traffic around the scene.

At 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 22, HVFC was dispatched to N. Dish Mill Road, where a driver had crashed their vehicle into a tree alongside Higganum Brook. The patient was transported to Middlesex Hospital. Crews closed the road to traffic during the incident.At 10:10 a.m. on Feb. 16, crews responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident on Killingworth Road. The drivers of both vehicles were evaluated on scene and refused additional medical treatment or transport. Firefighters closed the northbound lane of traffic during the incident and rerouted traffic.

And at 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 12, HVFC and Chester Hose Company Inc. were dispatched to an accident on Route 9 South between exits 13 and 10 (old exits 8 and 7). The driver had struck the guard rails, causing heavy damage to the front end of his vehicle. The driver refused additional medical treatment. Crews closed one lane of traffic during the incident.
