(October 18, 2024) — Haddam-Killingworth Youth and Family Services (HKYFS), in partnership with the Haddam-Killingworth Community Coalition, Connecticut State Police, Nutmeg Pharmacy, and Killingworth Family Pharmacy, is proud to participate in the DEA National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
This event provides a safe, convenient, and responsible way for residents to dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, controlled substances, and used vapes—no questions asked.
Drop-off locations will be available at Nutmeg Pharmacy in Higganum and Killingworth Family Pharmacy from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Free Narcan Trainings
In addition to the medication disposal service, free Narcan (Naloxone) training sessions will be offered at both locations:
- Killingworth Family Pharmacy: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
- Nutmeg Pharmacy in Higganum: 12:00 Noon – 1:00 p.m.
Participants will receive hands-on instruction on how to administer Naloxone, a life-saving tool in reversing opioid overdoses.
Prevention Resources
Throughout the event, attendees also will have access to additional prevention resources:
- Free Lock Bags for securing medications at home
- Deterra Drug Deactivation Bags for safe, at-home disposal of medications
These resources will be available while supplies last on a first-come, first-served basis.
This year’s DEA Drug Take Back Day coincides with National Red Ribbon Week (October 23, 2024 to October 30, 2024), a nationwide initiative aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug misuse and promoting a drug-free lifestyle.
Join us in taking an active step towards safeguarding our community by clearing out your medicine cabinets and learning valuable tools to prevent drug misuse and overdose. Red Ribbon resources and materials will be available at the Fall Fest on October 26, 2024 and at the Pumpkin Run on October 27, 2024.
