Letter to the Editor: Gender Identity

The views stated here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the editors of this newspaper. We welcome supporting or opposing views on any published item. Received February 1, 2022.

To the Editors:
A recent Board of Ed meeting was marred by inflammatory and inaccurate speech by a parent on the issue of gender education.
This letter is in support of the programming, literature and clubs formed to educate students about gender identification, expression and the freedom to explore these issues.  I respect the effort made by school personnel in the H-K system to be sure materials are age appropriate. I respect the intention to be respectful and kind in serving the students of HKIMS.
Such professional conduct contributes to growth of knowledge, open-mindedness and thereby a better means of being curious, kind, and fair.  Just the sort of community we all want.
Thank you,
Kate Wessling M.D.
