HKYFS Events Ahead for January-March 2024

Submitted by Jennifer Favalora

(January 18, 2024) — As we step into the new year, Haddam-Killingworth Youth and Family Services (HKYFS) is looking forward to a new year with a profound commitment to community well-being. To kick off 2024, HKYFS will prioritize mental health, and prevention, and strengthen family connections and overall wellness through the following series of events:

On January 25, 2024, HKYFS and Brainerd Library invite the community to a QPR Suicide Prevention Training. Described as “CPR for Mental Health,” this program empowers participants to recognize warning signs, intervene effectively, and refer those in crisis. The workshop is open to individuals ages 15 and older, and includes a pizza dinner.

On February 27, 2024 and March 19, 2024, join renowned Keynote Speaker Erica Cuni for “Burnout Be Gone: A Modern Guide to Healthy Parenting,” a two-part workshop series via Zoom. This series provides practical, research-based, and integrative tips for navigating the complexities of parenting in a world where advice, social media, and influencers often confuse what is helping our children or hindering them.

On February 11, 2024 at Running Brook Farms in Killingworth, embrace Winter’s glow with a family Planting Event. Open to youth along with their caregivers, this event offers a morning of painting, planting, and community engagement.   Connecting with nature, plants, soil, family, and community are all positive strategies for wellness, reducing stress, and having fun!

On March 16, 2024 we launch a community collaboration for the “HK Family Hikers,” a program designed for families to come together and embrace the beauty of nature, the joy of movement, and the spirit of togetherness. This program is designed to create memorable experiences for families through organized hikes. Participants not only engage in physical activity, but will also enjoy a fun, nature-based activity together.

To participate in these events, visit HKYFS.org and sign up online. Haddam-Killingworth Youth and Family Services anticipates a year of growth, support and community building in 2024.  Please join our e-mail list through the website to stay up-to-date on all future events!
