HKHS Girls Swimming 2023: Team Wins Gold at Relay Meet

(September 12, 2023) — The Haddam-Killingworth High School Girls Swim team won five of eight relays in a pre-season relay meet held at Windsor Locks High School on September 8, 2023. The Cougarz raced against swimmers from Suffield, Windsor Locks Co-Op, Enfield, Bulkeley/HMTCA, and Manchester Co-Op. Medals were awarded to first-place finishers, which included all twelve members of the H-K team, as follows:

Elsa Shatraw (FR), Emma Sajus (SR), Gianna Dabkowski (FR), Layla Hayward (SR), Maggie Miller (SO), Olive Forristall (FR), Olivia Campo (JR), Olivia “Liv” Macaluso (JR), Peyton Tyler (SR), Sofia Campo (JR), Sophia Langer (FR), Veronica “VV” Pypa (JR).

Winning Finishes for HKHS:

400-yard Medley Relay: Macaluso, Forristall, Sajus, Hayward.

800-yard Freestyle Relay: Miller, Shatraw, Tyler, Macaluso.

200-yard Backstroke Relay: Shatraw, Langer, Pypa, Hayward.

400-Yard Freestyle Relay: Sajus, O. Campo, Forristall, Tyler.

200-Yard Freestyle Relay: Miller, S. Campo, Tyler, Dabkowski.

Coach’s Note: This team is small, but mighty. The girls are working hard, and some are already swimming State Championship-level qualifying times. It will be exciting to see the season unfold.
