Cross Country 2022: HKHS Undefeated in First Dual Meet

Boys cross country running as a pack

(October 2, 2022)— On September 28, 2022, the Haddam Killingworth boys and girls cross country teams began their dual meet season as they traveled to Totoket Park in North Branford to compete in the Large School league meet against Valley Regional, Morgan, North Branford and Cromwell.

Both teams went undefeated on the afternoon to begin their dual meet season with a 4-0 record.  The boys defeated Morgan by a score of 15-50, beat Cromwell 20-42, defeated North Branford 15-50 and beat Valley 15-49.  H-K boys ran as a pack at the front of the race over the 3.1 mile course and were led by Freshman Daniel McCourt, who placed 3rd (19:10).  Crossing the line at the exact same time as McCourt were Sophomores Colton Merola, 4th, Jack Cozean, 5th, Junior Luke Hedges, 6th and Senior Alex Lara, 7th.

The Girls team also went up against the same four league teams and went 4-0 on the afternoon. The Cougars defeated Morgan 15-50, beat Cromwell 15-50, defeated Valley 15-50 and beat North Branford 15-50. Also running as a pack over the 5,000 meter course the girls were led by Sophomore Margaret Robinson, who placed 3rd in a time of 23:45.  Finishing as a pack in the same time in places 4th-10th was Junior Sydney Adelberg, Seniors Chloe LaCoss, Isabelle Berardino, Kira O’Brien, along with Sophomore Keira Sehl-Albert and Freshmen Grace Mitchell and Delaney Aronson.

The cross country team competed on October 1st, traveling to Montgomery, New York for the New Balance NY Night Time Showcase; they will be at home on Tuesday October 4, 2022 for the Floyd Parness Invitational.
