Higganum Wine and Spirits (HWS) Moves to Tylerville

Submitted by Teri Everett.

(May 17, 2021) Chuck and Teri Everett have owned HWS since November 2002.  They bought the package store, formerly located at 968 Killingworth Rd, Higganum a year after they had purchased their main store, Teri’s Package Store in November 2001.

The move to Tylerville Center, 1610 Saybrook Rd. Haddam, was not an easy decision.  Moving across town was not something they took lightly.  Change is Progress and they believe this to be true.

HWS is now located next to the Cooking Company on the corner of Bridge Rd. and Saybrook Rd. Haddam.

The Everetts and staff have enjoyed the time spent, nearly 19 years, next to Dino’s Pizza. They’ve made numerous friends from the customers there.  They watched families grow, saw children that Teri coached in softball or her Girl Scouts, now become adults with families of their own.  Their customers are not just customers they are friends and some are just like family. The Everett’s have been local residents since October 1988.  Their children attended Burr Elementary and then on to HKMS and HKHS.

They consider the staff part of their extended family. Between the Everetts and their staff, they are very active in the town. They participate in donation drives like Relay for Life, and donate to many causes in town. “We support one another, any way we can,” said Teri.

HWS has morphed too, the new location will carry more craft and specialty beers.   HWS is bright and beautiful, fully stocked and ready to greet customers.  Brad, the manager, Dave, George and Kim are all look forward to servicing the customers at this new location.  HWS opened for a soft opening on May 14th and met it’s goals for the 1st weekend.

HWS as well as Teri’s prides themselves on excellent customer service, competitive prices, and over 50% of their products are at state minimum.  Both stores offer case discounts and custom orders.

Hours of operation for HWS are Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m.-8:30 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Hours of operation for Teri’s, which is staying put in Higganum Center, are Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
