(April 22, 2024) — You couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day on April 16, 2024 when a group of local and state officials met at Dancing Daffodils pick-your-own daffodil farm in Higganum.
The sky was crystal clear blue, the sun was shining and daffodil pickers were out enjoying the farm. Just as the group gathered to discuss the farm’s history and immediate goals and plans for the future, a bald eagle flew overhead. The farm is being celebrated as the first pick-your-own daffodil farm in Connecticut.
In addition, the Halfingers have completed their barn restoration project, and after a tour of the pick-your-own daffodil farm, the group headed a half mile down the road for a tour of the historic restored barn, and a discussion of the couple’s plans to begin processing and selling their daffodil bulbs inside of it.
As Jen Halfinger explained, “It’s thrilling to have the support of so many state and local agencies. We are working to create this very special daffodil destination for everyone to enjoy.”
Although PYO daffodil season is winding down, the Halfingers are already planning for next year, and they will be putting in another large planting, including later-blooming varieties, for picking next season.
