Killingworth to hold 3 Public Hearings next week

Submitted by Catherine Iino, First Selectwoman

Three important public hearings are scheduled for next week. All are being held remotely.

Killingworth Charter Revision Commission, Monday, March 15, 7:00 pm.

The Charter was last revised in 2009. It covers the organization of the town’s government, including town meetings, elective offices, elected and appointed boards and committees, and budgeting procedures. The Board of Selectmen appointed a Charter Revision Commission last year. Before it begins to draft proposals, the commission is eager to hear your ideas on what works, what doesn’t, and what is outdated.

Several more hearings will be held, and the charter will ultimately be put to referendum.

Planning & Zoning Commission, Tuesday, March 16, 7:00 pm.

This hearing concerns amendments to the Killingworth Zoning Regulations on accessory apartments. The Planning & Zoning Commission is proposing a new regulation “to permit a wider variety of housing types for various segments of Killingworth’s population. It allows the creation of one accessory apartment within single-family dwellings, detached accessory buildings, and certain new construction for the purpose of providing alternative rental housing for the elderly, single persons, or caretakers. This regulation is designed to ensure that in creating an accessory apartment, the single-family character of the existing principle dwelling shall be retained.”
