Events and Programs at Brainerd Memorial Library, May 2024

Submitted by BML Staff

(April 29, 2024) — Reminder: Brainerd Memorial Library’s Sixth Annual “Ag Day” is coming up on June 1, 2024.  Save the date!  It promises to be another wonderful community event.

Renovation

The Upper Level of the Library is closed for renovation,  but we are still open. Please use the lower entrance.  All materials should be returned to the Community Room or placed in the parking lot Book Drop.

Big changes are coming to BML. Our interior renovation began upstairs. The lower level Community Room provides Adult Services space with computers, copier, checkout and a selection of books and DVDs.  Staff will order any materials you want from other libraries, as we do now. The Children’s Room will not be affected by this first phase of the renovation.

Free Raffle

Stop in and fill out a *free raffle ticket to win a lovely hand-crafted bird nesting ball. The raffle will continue until the tickets are all gone. We will draw two tickets a week. Good Luck!

*Thank you to the Community Foundation of Middlesex and the Janvrin Fund.

BML is Making a Community Quilt

This will be an ongoing project starting May 1, 2024 and culminating in October.  We intend to stitch all the pieces you color together, to fabricate one beautiful quilt to display.

Stop in to pick up a piece to color here with fabric markers or bring home.  Return it when it’s finished.  Call or email Jenny for questions.

Culinary Book Club

Wednesday, May 8, 2024 6:30 p.m. “Eat What You Read” Are we eating or reading? Have you thought about what your favorite characters eat?  Join us in this session of the Culinary Club, as we create dishes that are represented in books. Will this be a sweet treat from your favorite romance novel? Or a dish completely out of this world because you are a Sci-Fi junkie?

The Crafting Connection

Monday, May 13, 2024 5:30 p.m. Beaded Bracelets. Come treat yourself by creating two unique bracelets that reflect your style. We will be using stones, seed beads, memory and jewelry wire.

Brainerd Book Club

Meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. This group is not staff-run, but is hosted by the Library. They meet at a member’s home. The book choices are rather eclectic as they try to select from diverse genres. Discussion is always friendly and expansive. All are welcome to join. BML orders books in advance, which can be checked out as needed.

Brainerd Memorial Library is located at 920 Saybrook Road in Haddam. Phone: 860-345-2204. www.brainerdlibrary.org
