Boys Tennis 2022: HKHS Defeated by Westbrook 6-1

Submitted by Rod Pakus, Coach.

The Haddam Killingworth High School Cougars lost a Shoreline Conference contest to Westbrook in a match played on the Westbrook courts Thursday, April 14, 2022.  The Knights showed why they are a tough opponent in the Conference as they won all but the #1 Singles match. “They are competitive and well coached,” said H-K Coach Pakus.

The match at #1 singles was still being played after all the other contests were decided. H-K’s Sophomore Co-Captain Eddie White was able to overcome Westbrook’s Joey Caslin in three sets and pick up a win for the Cougars.  The match was decided in a 7-4 tiebreak in the third set.

“That has to be the most competitive match I’ve seen this season,” said Coach Pakus.  “Our guy was up two breaks in the third set and Caslin came back to even the match and force the tiebreak. Eddie was able to play the cleaner tie break and came away with the win.”

Individual match scores are as follows:

#1 Singles   Eddie White (H-K)  d. Joey Caslin (W)  6-2, 4-6, 7-6 TB 7-4)
#2 Singles   Elliot Koplas (W) d. Bryce Leiberman (H-K) 7-5, 6-3
#3 Singles   Jonah Freund  (W) d. Joey Mercier (H-K) 6-0, 6-0
