Eversource Resumes Helicopter Inspections of Transmission Lines

Submitted by Jamie Ratliff, Eversource
(August 26, 2026) — With hurricane and summer storm season ongoing, Eversource will be using a helicopter to conduct routine patrols in electric transmission line rights of way as part of its continuing mission to deliver safe, reliable service to customers.
Across several communities in north central Connecticut, crews will inspect the condition of the high-voltage transmission system to proactively identify and assess any issues that may threaten electric reliability and ensure they’re properly addressed as part of the company’s comprehensive vegetation management program. Eversource works year-round to safeguard the electric grid, and these patrols are a critical part of the energy company’s storm preparedness efforts.

Inspections will take place on Thursday, August 27, 2026 and on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Weather permitting, flights will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and will cover an area that includes Haddam and East Haddam, as well as Berlin, Bloomfield, Cheshire, East Hampton, East Hartford, Glastonbury, Hartford, Manchester, Meriden, Middlefield, Middletown, New Britain, Newington, Portland, Rocky Hill, South Windsor, Southington, Wallingford, Wethersfield and Windsor.

The aircraft to be used are as follows:
Blue and White Helicopter – Tail #N411DD
Navy and Silver Helicopter – Tail #N1431W
