(July 31, 2026) — August is coming in hot, and we’ve got some fun things on tap for you at the Haddam Senior Center. See the newsletter link below and the highlights below that.
Tuesday, August 4th at 11:30 a.m. – Sherry Carlson from CRAHD will be here for our monthly blood pressure screening. This is a drop-in event so there is no sign-up required.
Monday, August 10th at 12:00 Noon – We have our monthly Pizza and a Movie! This month’s feature is “The Devil Wears Prada” featuring Anne Hathaway as an aspiring journalist who takes a demanding job as an assistant to a very prickly Miranda Priestly played devilishly by Meryl Streep. What could go wrong? Call or stop by the Senior Center to reserve your seat. We ask for a $5 donation to help offset the cost of the pizza.
Tuesday, August 18th at 12:00 Noon – Chris Blancarte, Nutritionist from Senior Resources Agency on Aging will be here to talk about GLP-1s. This is a very hot topic, please see the link above for more information.
Friday, August 21st at 11:30 a.m. – Stacey Hathaway will be here for our Mini-Spa Manicures. Sign-up is required, and there is a $20 fee for the manicures.
Monday, August 24th at 1:00 p.m. – The Haddam Senior Center welcomes Karen Rini from SaltAire Living in Middletown for a candle-making workshop. (flyer above). You will have the opportunity to create your own custom candle using premium fragrance oils, soy wax and botanicals in a beautiful wooden bow. This workshop will run until approximately 3:00 p.m. and is $15 for Haddam residents and $20 for non-residents. We do ask that you sign up for this event to ensure that we have enough materials on hand.
Thursday, August 27th 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. – AARP will be here for our annual Safe Driving Course. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members. Please call or stop by the Senior Center to sign up.
Friday, August 28th at 12:30 p.m. – I scream, You scream, We all scream for ice cream! Our annual end of summer ice cream social is a cool way to begin the wind-down of summer.
Monday, August 31st at 12:30 p.m. – Join us for delicious cake as we celebrate those with August birthdays!
Monday, August 31st at 1:00 p.m. – Our next Book Club meeting. We will be discussing our current book selection, “A Man Called Ove.”
Don’t forget that we have Accessible Yoga with Becky on Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m.. This class will run through August 28, 2026.
We serve a delicious hot lunch every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The cost of the lunches is donation-based, $3.00 (Monday/Tuesday/Thursday) and $5.00 (Friday). Our Monday, Tuesday and Thursday lunches are part of the Title III program, which is a federal program authorized under the Older Americans Act to provide federal grants to support nutrition services for adults 60 and older. Our Friday program is subsidized by the town. We are very fortunate to have these two programs here in Haddam, so please be mindful of them and their costs if your plans change.
