Highlights are below:

Monday, July 6th at 1pm – GameDay Board Games! Beat the heat and test your skills with Rummikub, Left, Right, Center, Blank Slate or bring your favorite board game from home!

Tuesday, July 7th at 1pm – We’ve got a new net to play badminton or volleyball indoors where it’s not so hot and it’s lots of fun. We will play tournament-style or take turns, however it works out best. It’s a fun way to get some movement in your day, no experience required!

Thursday, July 9th at 12:00pm – Sign up or bring your lunch as we revisit the original king of late night, Johnny Carson, with some of his Late Night Legends Classic episodes from “The Tonight Show.”

Friday, July 10th at 10am – We are excited to have “Accessible Yoga” classes taught by our very own Becky Rice! This is another all levels and all abilities class utilizing seated and standing poses with modifications. This will be an on-going eight week drop-in session. Sign-up is not required.

Monday, July 13th at 12pm – Our monthly Pizza and a Movie will be “The Time Traveler’s Wife.” This movie adapted from a book by the same name, and is a delightful story about Henry, a Chicago librarian with a rare genetic condition that allows him to travel through time, and the romance he shares with artist, Clare, as they navigate life with his unique condition.

Tuesday, July 14th at 11:30am – Sherry Carlson from CRAHD will be here for blood pressure screenings. This is another drop-in event, so no need to sign up.

Thursday, July 16th – There will be NO BINGO as Club 60 takes a trip to the Ivoryton Playhouse to see “1776.” (Bingo is rescheduled to the last Thursday in July. See below).

Friday, July 17th – Stacey Hathaway will be here for “Mini-Spa Manicures.” Space is limited, so call now to reserve a time. Manicures are currently scheduled to begin at 12:30pm, but earlier appointments can be accommodated beginning at 11:30am. Call the Senior Center for more information. The cost of the manicures is $20 and due at the time of your appointment.

Monday, July 20th at 1pm – Join us for Corn Hole! Another opportunity to stay active in the summer, while also staying cooler in the air conditioning.

Thursday, July 23rd at 12:30pm – Lisa Malloy from the Haddam Historical Society will be here to talk about the historic schoolhouses in Haddam.

Monday, July 27th at 12:30pm – We will celebrate all of our friends with July birthdays! Join us for a delicious cake made by our very own Carol Liebman!

Monday July 27th at 1pm – Our Mystery Book Club will meet to discuss our July selection, “Murder in Miniature.” We also will welcome a very special guest, the author of “Murder in Miniature,” Katie Tietjen! If you have not joined the book club yet, this is a great month to do so!

Thursday, July 30th at 12:45pm – We will have our second Bingo session of the month. Cost to play is $1 a card.

With the pending heat wave that is upon us, I wanted to remind everyone to stay hydrated and take care of yourself in this heat. Please also check in on your friends and neighbors. Brainerd Memorial Library is a cooling center during this heatwave, and if necessary, we can open the Senior Center to accommodate additional folks. I have attached a Community Page to this email that includes the hours for the library.

Speaking of community, I have attached a flyer (above) for a Birthday Parade for a special little boy in Haddam, Jacob Barrera, who is turning three while also battling cancer. The parade is scheduled for August 2nd at 12pm. If you are interested in participating in this parade, details are attached in the flyer, or you can call the Senior Center for additional information. It would be great to have as many people as possible participate to help celebrate Jacob’s birthday.

I wish you all a safe and happy 4th of July. Stay cool, everyone!
