I am writing in strong support of the Regional School District 17 school budget and to remind our community to vote on July 15th.

As a former public education teacher for 40+ years, I understand that our schools are, without question, one of our community’s greatest resources. They shape our children’s futures, strengthen our towns, and contribute to the overall quality of life we all value. Supporting our schools means supporting our community as a whole.

RSD17 has much to be proud of. Our schools are highly successful, with strong graduation rates and students who consistently excel thanks to the solid foundation they receive throughout their education. This success is driven by the dedication and talent of our exceptional educators, who work tirelessly to support every student.

Unfortunately, in recent months there have been many divisive posts on social media spreading misinformation and confusion about the budget. While disagreements are part of any healthy community, decisions of this importance must be based on accurate information and a shared commitment to our children’s well-being. When false narratives take hold, it is ultimately our students who are most affected.

This budget represents an investment in maintaining the high standards our community expects and our children deserve. It ensures that RSD17 can continue to provide the quality education that has led to such strong outcomes.

I urge all residents to come together, focus on the facts, and support our schools by voting Yes on July 15th.

Cinny MacGonagle, Killingworth
