Here we are in the final days leading up to Election Day. Early voting is underway, and political ads are hitting our screens like rain during a Nor’easter. I know you may be ready for it all to end. I hear you and I am working right up to the last minute because you are worth it!
Since this summer, I’ve been knocking on doors throughout Haddam and across the 36th District. I make a point of getting out most days, often morning and afternoon, hoping you’ll open your door and have a few minutes to talk. In an age of texts and social media posts, I still believe there is no substitute for meeting people face-to-face, listening to their concerns, and taking the time to understand what matters to them.
I’ve listened to parents, small business owners, seniors, single adults, high school students, homeowners, renters, people hoping to buy their first homes, and young people worried about their futures. Every conversation is different, but I’m encouraged by people’s enthusiasm to be part of the solution by voting. I’m struck by something many of our neighbors share: hope for a better future.
That hope comes with real concerns about affordability, access to essential services, and what the future holds. Listening helps me understand where I can make a difference. In Hartford, I will continue working to protect the services my neighbors depend on, stand up to rising utility costs, protect our individual rights, and make sure Connecticut’s budget surplus helps you. We have opportunities to make a difference, and I believe we must use them.
Former President Barack Obama spoke of hope as an active force, not blind optimism, but a commitment to confronting challenges and working toward something better. That idea resonates with me. These are unprecedented times coming out of Washington D.C., and Connecticut is facing complex issues, but we are not powerless. We can make our voices heard, participate in our democracy, and work together toward practical solutions.
Thank you to everyone who has already welcomed me, shared a concern, offered an idea, or simply taken the time to speak with me. I appreciate you more than you know. You inspire me to work harder than ever as I seek another term representing you all. I ask for your vote, and I will continue working every day for you and your family.
State Rep. Renee LaMark Muir
