(February 12, 2026) — Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown will hold auditions this month for performers ages 14 to 20 looking for an exciting and dynamic performance experience this Spring in the Teen Repertory Comapny production of “Mel Chomsky’s History of the World,” a new comedy written and directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Dic Wheeler.
“This comedy combines theater, circus and Commedia dell’ Arte,” said Wheeler. “It starts in Sicily in 1626 at a Commedia dell’ Arte performance, but three of the performers end up getting taken on a trip through time and space by a dead Philosopher/Comedian named Mel Chomsky. The quartet travels to ancient Athens, renaissance Rome, Valley Forge during the American Revolution, the French Revolution, and even Middletown, Connecticut among other places in their wacky adventures. It’s a crazy, slapstick journey through history, focusing on the eternal tension between democracy and authoritarianism.”
Audition dates are February 23, 2026 and February 26, 2026 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Oddfellows Playhouse, 128 Washington Street in Middletown.
Anyone wishing to audition should:

*Arrive on time, dress to move, and be prepared to stay the entire two-and-a-half hours
*Open to anyone ages 14 – 20
*Everyone who auditions and commits to the rehearsal and production schedule will be cast
*There is no cost to audition
Rehearsals begin March 16, 2026 and will be held on Mondays and Thursdays, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There will be some additional rehearsals, including an initial run-through on Saturday, April 11, 2026; technical rehearsal on May 9, 2026 and daily rehearsals May 11 – 13, 2026. Performance dates are May 14 – 16, 2026 and May 22-23, 2026.
