RSD 17 Invites Community Input on High School Renovation

Submitted by Regional School District 17

(December 13, 2025) — The Regional School District 17 Board of Education extends its sincere appreciation to the members of our school community, as well as to the residents of Haddam and Killingworth, for their continued support of the educational programs that serve our students.

The Board has appointed a new Feasibility Study Team to explore an alternative plan centered on a comprehensive renovation (vs. constructing a new building) of the existing High School structure to consider conceptual designs of a renovation project based on revised educational specifications.

Arcadis & QA+M Architecture will be providing an update of the work to the Board of Education and community on December 16, 2025 at the regular Board Meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Haddam-Killingworth High School Community Room/Lower Media. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for community comment. The Board of Education invites Haddam and Killingworth community members to provide feedback on the information presented at this Board meeting.

This new project approach seeks space waivers from the State, enabling the district to preserve and modernize the facilities, including the auditorium, field house, pool, and technical education spaces, that serve not only our students but also the broader Haddam-Killingworth community. The renovated space will meet all codes, compliance and NEASC requirements presented in earlier discussions.

The Board has also strengthened its collaboration with local legislators, appealing to them as key partners in securing available state funding. As a regional district, RSD17 benefits from having multiple legislative advocates in Hartford supporting our efforts.

An additional community conversation will be held on January 24, 2026, with time and location forthcoming. We thank the community for its continued support throughout this process.
