Chenzo’s Restaurant Wins “Best of the Shoreline” Award

By Sharon Challenger

(October 3, 2026) — My husband and I recently went to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the opening of Chenzo’s Italian Kitchen & Bar on Route 81 in Higganum. As always, we were graciously greeted by the staff who have been working hard over the past year to create a fabulous restaurant. When we arrived, we were pleased to see that the tables and booths were filled with friends and families. The atmosphere was quite lively to say the least.

To celebrate the evening, Chef Jorge Ramos had several delicious items featured on the menu. I selected the roasted duck breast, broccoli, and polenta while my husband chose filet mignon with mashed potatoes and colorful carrots. Both meals were cooked with care and were delicious.

While dining, our favorite hostess, Chloe Ellinas (who had the night off), cheerfully stopped to chat with us. She shared the great news that Chenzo’s was voted “Best New Restaurant on the Shoreline for 2025–2026.” The award comes from Shore Publishing, a Madison-based firm whose publications include “The Sound,” “Guilford Courier” and “Harbor News.” The company’s “Community Choice Awards” are voted on by their readers.

In one short year, owners Caleb Ellinas and Vincent Balisciano have worked tirelessly to create a wonderful restaurant, and their efforts have proved beneficial. They recently expanded into the space that was formerly Teri’s Package store. In the expansion they created a separate dining room in the back and added more booths and tables throughout. The space in the rear can be open or closed off with sliding barn style doors.

On their Facebook page, they commented, “We’re so grateful to everyone who voted for us and has supported us since day one. A special shoutout to Chef Jorge Ramos and our entire team who put so much into what we do every day. We couldn’t be happier to be here and feel so welcomed by this community. Thank you.”

Congratulations to all at Chenzo’s!
