Haddam Land Trust Offers Work Party and a River Paddle

Submitted by Haddam Land Trust

(September 20, 2025) — Volunteers are needed to help with a Haddam Land Trust work party at the Bamforth Preserve in Haddam on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. (Rain date will be the next day, Sunday, September 28, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.)

At least two trees have fallen across the southern part of the trail. The trail has been cleared, but the branches still need to be gathered and chipped up. Much of what needs to be done is pulling the downed branches out of the weeds and vines that have grown since the trees fell. There are also several places where tree branches have grown and now overhang the trail. They need to be cut back and chipped. Haddam Land Trust will supply loppers and saws and a small branch chipper, but what we really need are volunteers to help with the actual labor. Wear gloves and adequate footwear for field work.

Coffee and doughnuts will be on the table for the helpers. Park next to the old red barn just off Bamforth Road, which is off of Hayden Hill Road in Haddam. Contact Peter Smith for more information at 860-267-9223.

Connecticut River Paddle

Haddam Land Trust invites you to join a Connecticut River Paddle on Saturday, November 1, 2025. We will leave the boat launch at Haddam Meadows State Park at 5:30 p.m. Canoes and Kayaks are welcome. This is a family outing and children are welcome.  Bring some campfire food and join us for a pleasant evening on the river.  You may find this paddle to be a delightful hiatus from a sometimes busy holiday weekend.  Weather permitting, you should have an easy, short paddle and a good time telling tales around the campfire.

Please Note: Life Jackets are mandatory and must be worn. It will be helpful to bring both a flashlight and a whistle, if you have one. The paddle will go for about two miles with a break in the middle. Rain, snow, heavy winds, floods, hail and/or thick lava flows will probably cancel this program. Call Peter Smith for more information at 860-267-9223.
